Khawar Naeem Hashmi began his journalism career in 1971 with Daily Azad and was in-charge of the children’s pages. In 1974, he joined Daily Musawat in Karachi as a Film Editor. In 1980, Khawar Naeem Hashmi joined Daily Jang as a Subeditor and left it as Editor in 2002. He also worked at Geo as its Bureau Chief, Lahore. A progressive journalist, Khawar Naeem Hashmi has struggled immensely for the cause of press freedoms in Pakistan. He was awarded Pakistan’s highest civilian award, the Pride of Performance, in 1989 in recognition of his services.
A celebrated editor and a leading journalist, Khawar Naeem Hashmi is a self-effacing, unassuming professional who is well and truly committed to his profession. In a career spanning four decades, he has passed a number of important milestones and worked relentlessly for the rights of the journalistic community.
